Global Handwashing Day draws attention to technologies’ critical role in Covid-19 and our hand hygiene practices moving forward.

Copenhagen, Denmark –  Cicor (SIX Swiss Exchange: CICN), a leading international technology company in the fields of printed circuit boards and hybrid circuits, printed electronics, microelectronics as well as EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services), based in Switzerland, has released a video in collaboration of technology partner Sani Nudge. Sani Nudge is Europe’s preferred hand hygiene technology solution.


The show of support coincides with Global Handwashing Day and the worldwide impact the technology has in reducing infections in hospitals and nursing homes. 

 The event comes at a time here in Denmark when Sygehus Lillebælt the winner of the Danish Hygiene Award presented by The Danish Council for Better Hygiene cited the use of an electronic hand hygiene surveillance system as a primary factor in the reduction of infections in their hospital.

Global Handwashing Day is an annual advocacy day that serves as a reminder that handwashing with water and soap is an efficient and affordable way to prevent the spread of many diseases. The Global Handwashing Day calls for coordinated action to increase hand hygiene worldwide. Cicor Group and Sani Nudge are proud to be a part of spreading awareness about this event.

More and more clinical evidence continues to support technologies impacts on hand hygiene compliance and reducing infections. A new study, Effectiveness of an electronic hand hygiene monitoring system in increasing compliance and reducing healthcare-associated infections share that improvement using electronic hand hygiene monitoring has significantly reduced hospital-acquired bloodstream infections.

Handwashing is one of the most effective and basic ways to stay healthy and prevent the spread of germs to others. Keeping hands clean can reduce the risk of respiratory infections by 16% and prevent millions of deaths every year.

Covid-19 is only one of several infections that we need to take seriously. By 2050, multi-resistant antibiotic bacterial resistance is expected to be the biggest threat to human survival, with Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) as a massive contributor to this. HAIs represent a significant threat to patient safety, affecting hundreds of millions of individuals worldwide (Allegranzi et al., 2011). 

Future outbreaks pose a serious risk to our population and economies. In turn,  ensuring the safety of healthcare workers is vital to overcome the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Medical facilities need resources that are not burdensome in time, such as direct observation, which is the current method for measuring compliance,  or costly regulations. Embracing technologies that can increase compliance behaviors will save lives. Hospitals need the tools to measure data to understand which patient contact situations could be risky or life-threatening.
